Kenny Simmons: A Life of Music, Creativity, and Storytelling

From Harlem to the Dance Floor

Born in Harlem, New York City, Kenny Simmons is a singer, songwriter, musician, producer, author, and lifelong creative whose career spans R&B, disco, funk, dance, jazz, gospel, and theater. 


He spent eight years as a backing musician for the Grammy Award-winning Commodores and developed his production skills while working with legendary R&B producer the Late Patrick Adams, His production skills were further shaped by his work with legendary R&B and disco producer. 


Known as the “Prince of R&B,” Adams earned 32 gold and platinum records and created or contributed to influential recordings by Sister Sledge, Black Ivory, Inner Life, Musique, Loleatta Holloway, Candi Staton, Fonda Rae, and the Universal Robot Band. His landmark productions included      “In the Bush,” “Keep On Jumpin’,” “Touch Me (All Night Long),” and “I’m Caught Up (In a One Night Love Affair).”


During the disco era, Simmons performed with Daybreak on Prelude Records. He later collaborated with longtime friend and producer Emilio Innocenti and pioneering electro producer John Robie—co-creator of Afrika Bambaataa’s groundbreaking “Planet Rock”. 


Simmons was on the Atlantic Records with dance hit “Body Mechanic,” The record reached No. 3 on Billboard’s dance chart in 1982 and returned to the chart after its 1988 re-release.

The Stage and The Infernos

Simmons expanded his creative work into musical theater by co-producing The Stages of Awareness with producer and musician Al Leone at New York City’s Soho Dream Theater. 


He also wrote and co-produced three albums for The Max Graham Band: Magnolia Hill, Wind & Time, and Luna. 


In 2002, he joined The Infernos, “America’s No. 1 Show Band,” as lead singer. During his 23 years with the group, Simmons shared stages with Lady Gaga, Barry Manilow, Chicago, The Temptations, and other celebrated entertainers. 


He also performed for four Presidents of the United States and appeared internationally in Rome, Italy, and Hong Kong, China.


Simmons had the honor to perform at B.B. King Blues Club & Grill in Times Square, he performed with The Nick Stefanacci Band and sang lead on Stefanacci’s first two albums, All for a Reason and 26 Years.

A Solo Recording Legacy

As a solo recording artist, Simmons has released The Sagittarius Project, Let It Flow, The Life & Times of Kenny Simmons, Tales from the Sagittarian, and three volumes of Kenny Simmons Greatest Hits Vol. 1,2 &3. 


His 2025 album, OPUS #67, features 15 songs spanning jazz, R&B, soul, and contemporary music, including “Blue,” which received recognition through the Grammy consideration process. 


After 23 remarkable years with The Infernos, Simmons retired from touring in August 2025, bringing one extraordinary chapter of his performing career to a close while creating space for new artistic endeavors.

A New Chapter in Storytelling

Simmons has since turned much of his attention to writing. All Roads Will Lead to God is a spiritually charged story of judgment, mercy, faith, and redemption;


 Demons: 15 Stories of Horror, Terror & Legend explores supernatural fears and the darkness hidden within humanity;

 

6/7: The Real Story is a science-fiction conspiracy thriller about alien technology transformed into a terrifying global weapon.
